His Holiness Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of His Lordship Rt. Rev. Joseph Kaithathara from the pastoral care of the Diocese of Gwalior, according to Canon Law 401 § 1, and has appointed Rev. Fr. Thomas Thennatt, S.A.C., until now Parish Priest of St. Pius Church, Mankapur, Nagpur, as the new Bishop of Gwalior.

This provision was made public in Rome on Tuesday, 18th October, 2016, at noon local time, corresponding to 15:30 hours, Indian Standard Time. 

Rev. Fr. Thomas Thennatt, SAC, was born on 26th November, 1953, in Koodalloor, Archdiocese of Kottayam, Kerala. He did his novitiate in the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (Pallottines), Bangalore, and made his solemn profession on 31st May, 1975. He completed his priestly formation at St. Charles Seminary, Nagpur, from 1975 to 1978 and was ordained priest on 21st October, 1978. In 1983 he obtained a Degree in Pastoral Theology from the Papal Seminary, Poona. As a priest he served in the following Dioceses and Institutions: Chaplain in a parish of the Diocese of Guntur (1979-1980); Chaplain in a parish of the Diocese of Eluru (1980-1981); Parish Priest of St. Antony, Mudfort, Archdiocese of Hyderabad (1984-1987) ; Director of the Youth Commission and YCS/YSM, families and lay people, Archdiocese of Hyderabad (1987-1991); Parish Priest at Pushpanagar, Diocese of Indore, and Diocesan Director for Laity, Family and SCC (1991-1993); Regional Director for Laity and Family and SCC for the States of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh (1993-1998); Rector, KhristPremalayaTheologate, Ashta and Director of Regional Commission for Formation (1998-2008); Consultor of the Pallottine Congregation, Province of Nagpur (2002-2008); Parish Priest at Ishgarh, Diocese of Jhabua, President of CRI unit Jhabua, Member of the College of Consultors (2008-2012). Since 2012 he is Parish Priest at St. Pius X Church, Archdiocese of Nagpur, and President of the Pastoral Commission of Nagpur SAC Province.
