I am hereby communicating the sad news of the death of Archbishop Abraham Viruthakulangara, Archbishop of Nagpur. He passed away in the very early hours of the morning at the CBCI Centre New Delhi. The funeral details will be communicated later on by the Archdiocese.
Archbishop Abraham Viruthakulangara was born on June 5, 1943 in Kerala. He was ordained a priest October 28, 1969 and began serving as parish Priest and District Superior of Sendhwa Parish of Khargon, Madhya Pradesh. At the very early age of 34 he was consecrated as Bishop on 13 July, 1977 and was given the charge of the then newly created diocese of Khandwa.
After two decades on 22nd April, 1998 he took charge as Metropolitan Archbishop of Nagpur. He was serving Archbishop of Nagpur when he passed away peacefully in his sleep this morning. Let us pray his soul may rest in peace.
The funeral will take place on Monday, 23rd April, 2018, at 3.30 p.m., at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral, Mohan Nagar, Nagpur.
