The Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI) affirms the importance of Social
Communications in the life and mission of the Church as taught by the magisterium
of the Church. It recognises the rapid strides India is making in the field of Communication
and Information Technology. The new technologies have enabled people to relate and
communicate with each other even when separated by long distances, thus building
a world-wide-web. Media are ‘Gifts of God’ to humanity. They are in “accordance
with his design to unite people in fellowship” and help them “to cooperate with
his plan for their salvation” and work for the “unity and advancement of all peoples”
(Communio et Progressio, n.2). We need to motivate all our church personnel to actively
participate in the new opportunities created by media and the information technology
to share the Good News and spread the kingdom of God.” (CBCI Statement, 26th General
Body, Trichur, 2004). By means of the powerful medium of the internet, the websites
