On Christmas Eve, Pope Francis officially inaugurated the 2025 Jubilee with the solemn Opening of the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica. Following a moment of prayer in the basilica's atrium, the Holy Father led the ancient rite, becoming the first "Pilgrim of Hope" to cross the threshold of the Holy Door. This significant act marked the beginning of the Jubilee Year. As the Pope entered St. Peter’s Basilica, the words of the Gospel of John were proclaimed: “I am the Door: if anyone enters through me, he will be saved.” These were followed by Psalm 118: “This is the door of the Lord, through which the righteous enter.” The 2025 Jubilee, themed “Pilgrims of Hope,” invites the faithful to deepen their faith and strengthen their commitment to mercy and reconciliation.
