homily, the Holy Father reflected on the Gospel of the day, centered on the
parable of the Good Samaritan, calling it one of the most beautiful and
evocative teachings of Jesus.<o:p></o:p>

Addressing the faithful, the Pope
emphasized the centrality of compassion, noting that the difference between
those who passed by the wounded man and the Samaritan was not merely action,
but the gaze - one that sees and feels compassion. "Our gaze makes the
difference, because it expresses what is in our hearts," he said. "We
can see and pass by, or we can see and feel compassion."<o:p></o:p>

The Pope presented the Good Samaritan as an
image of Jesus himself, who descended into the suffering of humanity to heal

Metropolitan Archbishop of Delhi and Secretary General of the CBCI, was the
principal Ordaining prelate. He was joined by Bishop Agnelo Rufino Gracias,
Administrator of the Diocese of Jullundur, and Bishop Sebastian Vadakel of
Ujjain as Ordaining prelate.<o:p></o:p>

Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic
Nuncio to India and Nepal, graced the occasion with his presence. In his

religious congregations in the inner courtyard of the Apostolic Palace at the
Pontifical Villas of Castel Gandolfo on Saturday, encouraging them to renew
their missionary spirit and discern their role in God’s universal plan of

The Holy Father welcomed with joy the
Superiors General, council members, and representatives of the following
congregations: the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME), the
Maestre Pie Filippini, the Maestre Pie Venerini, the Daughters of the Church,
the Salesian Oblates of the Sacred Heart, the Angeline Franciscan Sisters, the

participants of the United Nations’ AI for Good Summit, Pope Leo XIV has
called on nations to establish ethical frameworks and regulatory measures to
ensure that Artificial Intelligence serves the common good of humanity.<o:p></o:p>

The message, delivered on July 10 during
the summit being held in Geneva from July 8 to 11, highlights the
transformative power of AI in various fields - including education, healthcare,
communication, governance, and defense - and stresses the urgent need for
discernment and responsibility in its development and use.<o:p></o:p>

On behalf of the Holy Father, Cardinal
Parolin extended cordial greetings to all participants of the summit, which
marks the 160th anniversary of the founding of the International
Telecommunication Union (ITU). He commended the ITU and its partners for their
work in advancing global cooperation and bridging communication gaps,
especially in underprivileged areas where approximately 2.6 billion people
still lack access to communication technologies.<o:p></o:p>

“Humanity is at a crossroads,” the Pope’s

and Joachim, this year’s observance takes place during the Jubilee Year and
falls on July 27.<o:p></o:p>

In his message for the World Day for
Grandparents and the Elderly, Pope Leo XIV highlighted the enduring power of
hope in old age, reminding the faithful that “blessed are those who have not
lost hope” (Sirach 14:2). <o:p></o:p>

The Pope recalled biblical figures such as
Abraham, Sarah, and Moses, who were called by God in old age, showing that no
stage of life is without purpose. “Old age,” he wrote, “is a time of blessing

invited the faithful to embrace the liturgy with gratitude and awareness of the
environment. “We are celebrating in a space that is both holy and natural, a
place that speaks of God through creation,” he said, giving thanks to those who
contributed to the development of the new liturgical text, the fruit of

Bishops-Theologians Colloquium of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India
(CBCI) was held at the NBCLC (National Biblical Catechetical and Liturgical
Centre), Bengaluru, from July 4–5, 2025. Focused on the theme “Toward a New
Humanism: Theological Reflections on Pope Francis’ Writings,” the colloquium
brought together 51 participants, including bishops, theologians, scholars, and
clergy from across the country.<o:p></o:p>

The event was inaugurated by Oswald
Cardinal Gracias, Archbishop Emeritus of Mumbai, who shared his personal
experiences and impressions of Pope Francis. Cardinal Gracias described the
Holy Father as a “spirit-filled and saintly person” with a profound humility,
frequently referring to himself as a sinner in need of constant conversion. He
recalled the Pope's continual plea for prayers and his courage in acknowledging
the Church’s shortcomings, including giving undue emphasis to doctrines over
the Gospel’s pastoral essence.<o:p></o:p>

In his presidential address, Archbishop
Peter Machado of Bengaluru highlighted key elements of Pope Francis’
humanism—justice, the common good, integral ecology, solidarity, hope,

about the vision and mission of the institute as an arm of CBCI for theological

Ten eminent theologians presented scholarly
reflections during the two-day colloquium. Bishop Lawrence Pius of Dharmapuri
presented on mercy as the heart of humanism in Amoris Laetitia. Dr. Yesu
Karunanidhi offered a reflection on the Sacred Heart and reimagining human love
from Dilexit Nos. A distinctive paper was delivered by Dr. Annie
Kunnath, faculty at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, focusing on Pope Francis'
letter on the role of literature in formation, delivered at Saint John Lateran
in July 2024. Dr. Thomas Kuriakose explored the option for the poor and the
renewal of humanism in Evangelii Gaudium. Dr. Paulachan Kochappilly
reflected on the culture of encounter and human relations in Evangelii
Gaudium and Fratelli Tutti. Dr. Roy Lazar presented on synodality
and human dignity, drawing lessons from Episcopalis Communio and Praedicate
Evangelium.<o:p></o:p>

Dr. Arnald Mahesh shared insights on Pope
Francis’ inclusive vision of fraternity in Fratelli Tutti. Dr. John
Chathanatt revisited the theme of mercy as the heart of humanism through Misericordiae
Vultus and Misericordia et Misera. Reflections on healing, health,
and humanism were offered by Dr. Scaria Kanyakonil, based on Samaritanus
Bonus and Fratelli Tutti. Dr. A. Pushparajan concluded the
presentations with a profound study on the family as a school of humanism,
offering anthropological insights from Amoris Laetitia.<o:p></o:p>

A panel discussion with all paper
presenters followed, during which several participants stressed the need to
return to the original format of the colloquium by increasing participation of
bishops and theologians, and ensuring more time for meaningful dialogue and
interaction.<o:p></o:p>

The colloquium concluded with reflections
by Archbishop Joseph Pamplany, Member Archbishop, CBCI office for Doctrine &nbsp;and Bishop Sebastian Adayanthrath, who
emphasized the timely relevance of a new humanism rooted in Pope Francis’

26th CBCI Bishops-Theologians Colloquium Reflects on Pope Francis' Vision of New Humanism

New Delhi, July 4, 2025, CBCI: On July 3,
the Feast of Dukhrana of St. Thomas the Apostle - the Father of the Catholic
Church in India - was marked with double the sweetness as a historic
announcement was made. The Holy See elevated the national shrine of St. Thomas
Mount in Chennai to the status of a Minor Basilica, honouring the memory of the
Apostle who brought the Gospel to Indian soil and embraced martyrdom here.<o:p></o:p>

The Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal,
Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, presided over the liturgical celebrations as the
representative of Pope Leo XIV. He was joined by Cardinal Oswald Gracias,
Cardinal Anthony Poola, and Archbishop George Antonysamy, Vice President, CBCI
in a solemn and collaborative ceremony. The shrine is located within the Chingleput
Catholic Diocese.<o:p></o:p>

Thousands of pilgrims gathered to witness
this historic moment, alongside Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops, Priests,
social leaders, and the faithful.<o:p></o:p>

The official proclamation of the elevation

St. Thomas Mount Shrine in Chennai Elevated to Minor Basilica

Beatitude Mar Raphael Thattil, Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, has
received official communication from His Eminence Claudio Cardinal Gugerotti,
Prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches, announcing the conclusion of
the mission of Archbishop Cyril Vasil SJ as Pontifical Delegate to the Archeparchy
of Ernakulam-Angamaly.<o:p></o:p>

The decision was made by the Holy Father
Pope Leo XIV during an audience granted to Cardinal Gugerotti on 23 June 2025.
The letter addressed to Major Archbishop Thattil also records the Holy Father's
gratitude to Archbishop Vasil for his selfless and faithful service to the
Syro-Malabar Church during his tenure as delegate.<o:p></o:p>

Archbishop Cyril Vasil SJ was appointed as
Pontifical Delegate on 23 June 2023 by Pope Francis, following a request from
the Synod of Bishops of the Syro-Malabar Church. As part of his mission, he
made official visits to the Archeparchy in August and December 2023.<o:p></o:p>

The Apostolic administration in the
Archeparchy concluded on 11 January 2025, after which the governance of the

the CBCI, expressed his profound grief and personal sorrow at the passing of
Archbishop Mar Aprem. <o:p></o:p>

He expressed that it was with a heavy heart
and deep personal sorrow that he received the news of the passing of Archbishop
Dr. Mar Aprem, the former Head of the Chaldean Syrian Church in India. On
behalf of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI), and in his own
name, he offered heartfelt condolences and prayers for the eternal repose of
his noble soul.<o:p></o:p>

Archbishop Thazhath described Archbishop
Mar Aprem as more than just a prominent ecclesial figure - he was a towering
presence in the Christian landscape of India. A man of deep faith, sharp
intellect, and quiet strength, he faithfully shepherded his Church with
unwavering dedication, wisdom, and compassion. His contributions to the life of
the Church and to society at large were truly remarkable.<o:p></o:p>

Archbishop Thazhath shared his personal

and linguistic tradition. As a prolific author, theologian, and church
historian, he leaves behind a treasure of thought and testimony. His efforts
toward Christian unity and interfaith harmony will continue to inspire those

He added that Archbishop Mar Aprem was not
only respected within his own Church but held in high regard by the wider

chants, and heartfelt emotion, Pope Leo XIV arrived at Castel Gandolfo on
Sunday evening to begin a period of summer rest. A large crowd of faithful,
including nuns and pilgrims, had gathered for hours outside the papal summer
residence, eagerly awaiting his arrival.<o:p></o:p>

At approximately 5 p.m., the Pope's car
entered the peaceful town located 25 kilometers from Rome. As he approached
Villa Barberini, the Holy Father made an unscheduled stop to personally greet
the crowd. Shouts of “Pope Leo!” and “Your Holiness!” rang out as he stepped
out of the vehicle.<o:p></o:p>

The Pope began by blessing children in
their parents' arms and warmly greeting several elderly women. Among them was
Conchita, a pilgrim from Zaragoza, Spain, who tearfully told reporters: “I
shook his hand and said: ‘Pope Leo, te quiero mucho.’”<o:p></o:p>

A joyful group of nuns from the
Congregation of the Presentation of Mary, visiting from Cameroon, called out in

Father Pope Leo XIV has appointed Rt. Rev. Antonysamy Savarimuthu, currently
the Bishop of Palayamkottai, as the new Metropolitan Archbishop of Madurai,
Tamil Nadu, India. The appointment follows the resignation of Archbishop Antony
Pappusamy, which was accepted by Pope Francis on November 4, 2024. Bishop Savarimuthu
was subsequently named Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Madurai
and has now been confirmed as its new Archbishop.<o:p></o:p>

Born on December 8, 1960, in Vandanam, a
village in Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu, Archbishop-elect Savarimuthu
completed his early schooling in his native region. He entered St. Peter’s
Minor Seminary in Madurai to begin his priestly formation, and later pursued
his philosophical and theological studies at St. Peter’s Pontifical Seminary in
Bangalore.<o:p></o:p>

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in
History, Sociology, and Philosophy from the University of Bangalore, and a
Master of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Madurai. He
has published numerous academic and theological articles in both national and
international journals, reflecting his deep engagement with Church thought and
scholarship.<o:p></o:p>

Ordained to the priesthood on April 26,
1987, for the Diocese of Palayamkottai, Fr. Savarimuthu initially served as
Secretary to the Bishop of Palayamkottai from 1987 to 1989. He then became a
Professor at St. Peter’s Minor Seminary in Madurai from 1989 to 1992. In 1992,
he was sent to France for higher studies in Canon Law, where he spent nearly a
decade advancing his ecclesiastical education.<o:p></o:p>

From 1992 to 1994, he completed a
Licentiate in Canon Law at the Institut Catholique de Paris, followed by a DEA
in Canon Law at the University of Paris XI from 1994 to 1996. Between 1996 and
1997, he undertook the Erasmus Gratianus program conducted by the International
Canon Law Society of the European Union. From 1997 to 2000, he completed his
Doctorate in Canon Law jointly from the Institut Catholique de Paris and the
University of Paris XI.<o:p></o:p>

Upon returning to India in late 2000, he
took up pastoral and formational responsibilities. From October to November
2000, he served as Vocation Promoter and Rector of the Diocesan Petit Seminary
in Palayamkottai, and from December 2000 to May 2004, as Rector of Christ Hall
Major Seminary in Karumathur, Madurai.<o:p></o:p>

Between 2001 and 2003, he served as
Defender of the Bond, and from 2003 to 2008, he was appointed Judicial Vicar of
the diocese. From 2004 to 2011, he held the significant position of Vicar
General of the Diocese of Palayamkottai. During this time, he also served as
Parish Priest of Infant Jesus Shrine, Shanthinagar from 2004 to 2005, and later
at St. Jude’s Church, Maharajanagar from 2007 to 2009. Between 2009 and 2011,
he once again took on the role of Vocation Promoter and Rector of the Diocesan
Petit Seminary.<o:p></o:p>

Academically, he contributed to the wider
Church as a Visiting Professor at the Centre of Canon Law Studies, St. Peter’s
Pontifical Institute, Bangalore, from 2001 to 2010. He later served as a
Resident Professor from 2011 to November 2019. From June 2014 to November 2019,
he was Editor of the journal Studies in Church Law, and from September
2016 to November 2019, he was the Director of the Centre of Canon Law Studies.
Additionally, from October 2017 to October 2019, he served as Vice-President of
the Canon Law Society of India.<o:p></o:p>

Recognizing his pastoral zeal and
theological acumen, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Palayamkottai on
November 20, 2019, and he was consecrated on December 15, 2019. During his
tenure, he was deeply appreciated for strengthening clergy formation, promoting
canonical education, and guiding the faithful with clarity and compassion.<o:p></o:p>

Following the retirement of Archbishop
Antony Pappusamy, Bishop Savarimuthu was appointed Apostolic Administrator of

and all people of goodwill to become “seeds of peace and hope” amid a world
increasingly scarred by ecological and social crises. The theme, chosen by Pope
Francis, reflects a decade-long journey since the publication of Laudato si’,
and now finds renewed urgency during the Jubilee Year.<o:p></o:p>

Drawing on the Biblical imagery of seeds,
Pope Leo XIV reflected on Christ’s words about the grain of wheat (cf. John
12:24), emphasizing how life, peace, and hope can spring forth from
self-giving, even in the most desolate places. “In Christ we are seeds,” he
declared. “Not only that, but seeds of peace and hope.”<o:p></o:p>

Citing the prophet Isaiah and the
ecological vision of the Season of Creation (1 September - 4 October),

major regional bishops’ conferences from Asia, Africa, and Latin America - FABC,
SECAM, and CELAM - alongside the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, have
released a joint document calling for climate justice and a global ecological
conversion.<o:p></o:p>

Presented on 1st July at the
Holy See Press Office and earlier shown to Pope Leo XIV, the document is titled
“A call for climate justice and the common home: ecological conversion,
transformation and resistance to false solutions.” It reaffirms the
Church’s commitment to integral ecology in the spirit of Laudato Si’,
which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.<o:p></o:p>

“This message is not diplomatic; it is
eminently pastoral,” stated Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, President of the
Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC). “It is a call to conscience in
the face of a system that threatens to devour creation as if the planet were
just another commodity.”<o:p></o:p>

Cardinal Ferrão was joined by Cardinal
Jaime Spengler, President of CELAM and the Brazilian bishops’ conference
(CNBB); Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo, President of SECAM; and Emilce Cuda,
Secretary of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America.<o:p></o:p>

“As missionary apostles of an outgoing
synodal Church, we will go to COP30 to build peace in this war in pieces

powerful message delivered to participants of the 44th Session of the United
Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Conference in Rome, Pope Leo
XIV called for renewed global commitment to eradicate hunger, urging world
leaders to replace “slogans and misleading promises” with concrete action.<o:p></o:p>

Marking the FAO’s 80th anniversary, the
Holy Father addressed the Conference - its supreme governing body - for the
first time, expressing deep concern over the deterioration of global food
security and the growing distance from the “Zero Hunger” goal of the 2030
Agenda. He paid tribute to the ongoing efforts of FAO and its Director-General,
Qu Dongyu, while warning that current challenges demand more than good

In a statement issued today, the CBCI
conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and assured them of the
Church’s solidarity and prayers during this time of immense grief. “Our hearts
go out to the families who have lost their loved ones in this sudden and
devastating tragedy,” the statement read. “We also pray for the speedy and full
recovery of all those injured and for strength and courage for their families
and caregivers.”<o:p></o:p>

Highlighting that many of the victims were
migrant workers from other states, the bishops’ conference urged authorities to
provide adequate compensation, medical assistance, and long-term support to the

Pope Leo XIV Welcomes Ecumenical Patriarchate Delegation on Feast of Saints Peter and Paul

Rev. Elias Frank was born on 15 August 1962 in Bantwal, Karnataka, and belongs
to the Diocese of Mangalore. He completed his early education in Modankap and
Shillong before entering priestly formation at St. John Mary Vianney Minor
Seminary in Barasat and later studied philosophy at Morning Star Regional
Seminary, Barrackpore. He pursued his theological studies at the Pontifical
Urbaniana University in Rome, where he also earned a licentiate and later a
doctorate in Canon Law. <o:p></o:p>

Ordained as a priest on 23 April
1993 for the Archdiocese of Calcutta, he served in several parishes including
Sacred Heart Church in Burdwan and St. Therese of Lisieux in Durgapur. He also
contributed as a judge at the Inter-Diocesan Tribunal in Kolkata. Academically
accomplished, Bishop Elias Frank has served as a professor of Canon Law in Rome
since 2007 and is a visiting professor at the Alfonsian Academy. He has
published books and scholarly articles, and held roles as an external judge and
consultor for Vatican dicasteries. <o:p></o:p>

Appointed Bishop of Asansol by
Pope Francis on 3 July 2023, he was consecrated on 24 August 2023. Known for

meeting yesterday afternoon (26 June) with the Members of the Ordinary Council
of the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops, Pope Leo XIV offered a
brief but significant reflection on the meaning of synodality in the life of
the Church.<o:p></o:p>

Although unable to stay for the entire
session, the Holy Father took the opportunity to greet the participants and
emphasize what he called a “central idea”: that synodality is more than a
structure - it is a style and an attitude.<o:p></o:p>

“It helps us to be Church,” he said,
“promoting authentic experiences of participation and communion.”<o:p></o:p>

The Pope acknowledged the renewed impetus
given to the Synod of Bishops by Pope Francis, inspired by Saint Paul VI, and
pointed to the recent synodal journey as a continuation of that legacy. He
recalled how Pope Francis advanced the concept of synodality through various
assemblies - especially those focused on the family - culminating in the latest
phase dedicated entirely to synodality itself.<o:p></o:p>

Pope Leo affirmed that while the Synod
retains its institutional role, it is now “enriched by the fruits matured in
this season.” He encouraged the Council to carry forward this work with
discernment and hope.<o:p></o:p>

“You are the body appointed to gather these
fruits and to make a forward-looking reflection,” he told the members. “I
encourage you in this work, I pray that it will be fruitful, and I thank you

delivered a heartfelt meditation to bishops gathered in Rome, reminding them
that before being shepherds, they are themselves “sheep of the Lord’s flock.”
Crossing the Holy Door, he said, is a sign of their need for personal renewal
in Christ, the Good Shepherd.<o:p></o:p>

Reflecting on the Jubilee Year theme Spes
non confundit ("Hope does not disappoint"), Pope Leo urged
bishops to be custodians of this hope, especially in times of suffering. He
stressed that true Christian hope flows from God, not from human strength, and
becomes most powerful when offered in solidarity with the suffering.<o:p></o:p>

He described the bishop as a visible sign
of unity in the Church, a man shaped by theological life, and a witness of
faith, hope, and charity. Drawing on the Letter to the Hebrews, the Pope called
bishops to be steadfast like Moses, seeing “the invisible,” and to support
their people not just with words, but with presence and compassion.<o:p></o:p>

Pope Leo emphasized that pastoral charity
is the heart of a bishop’s life - from preaching and governance to personal
relationships. He also called for essential virtues: pastoral prudence,
evangelical poverty, celibate chastity, and human maturity marked by sincerity,

his priestly ordination, Pope Leo XIV made a special visit to the Vatican Radio
shortwave transmission center in Santa Maria di Galeria, a Vatican
extraterritorial zone in the Lazio region. The visit coincided with the
Solemnity of Corpus Christi.<o:p></o:p>

The Holy Father expressed heartfelt
gratitude to the staff of the center for their dedicated service, “carried out
with fidelity and continuity, even on a feast day like today,” acknowledging
the vital mission of Vatican Radio in reaching “places where few broadcasters
are able to go.”<o:p></o:p>

The shortwave transmission center, operated
by the Dicastery for Communication, was inaugurated in 1957 by Pope Pius XII.
This marks the first papal visit to the center since Pope St. John Paul II
visited the area in 1991.<o:p></o:p>

According to the Holy See Press Office,
which announced the visit via Telegram, Pope Leo met with the staff, visited
the transmitter hall designed by renowned architect Pier Luigi Nervi, and sat

Pope Leo XIV Visits Vatican Radio Transmission Center on Anniversary of Priestly Ordination

XIV today marked the 43rd anniversary of his priestly ordination during a quiet
commemoration in the Chapel of Saint Monica, which overlooks Piazza del
Sant’Uffizio and is closely linked to his spiritual journey. The chapel, now
his titular church since being elevated to the cardinalate in 2023, holds deep
personal and ecclesial significance.<o:p></o:p>

Printed for the occasion was a
commemorative holy card bearing words inspired by Saint Augustine: “For me
to feed all of you with ordinary bread is something I cannot do. Yet this Word
is your portion. I feed you from the same table which nourishes me. I am your
servant.” The image accompanying the card was a 15th-century Russian icon
of the Last Supper - an emblem of his lifelong commitment to service at the
Eucharistic table.<o:p></o:p>

Robert Francis Prevost was ordained a
priest on 19 June 1982 by Archbishop Jean Jadot of Belgium, then Pro-President
of the Secretariat for Non-Christians. <o:p></o:p>

At the time of his ordination, the future
pope was 27 years old. A member of the Order of Saint Augustine, he had made
his solemn vows in 1981 and studied Canon Law at the Pontifical University of
Saint Thomas Aquinas. In 1985, he began his missionary service in Chulucanas,
Peru, where he ministered to the faithful in the Piura region.<o:p></o:p>

Pope Leo XIV Commemorates 43rd Anniversary of Priestly Ordination at Chapel of Saint Monica

morning, at 10:00 AM in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Leo XIV held the weekly
General Audience, welcoming pilgrims and faithful from across Italy and around
the world. Continuing his catechetical series for the Jubilee Year 2025, themed
“Jesus Christ, Our Hope”, the Holy Father reflected on the healing of the
paralytic as narrated in the Gospel of John (Jn 5:2–9).<o:p></o:p>

In his catechesis titled “The Healing of
the Paralytic”, the Pope invited the faithful to contemplate moments in
life when they feel stuck, discouraged, or spiritually paralyzed. “Sometimes it
seems useless to continue hoping,” he said. “We become resigned and lose the
will to fight.” Drawing from the Gospel account, Pope Leo highlighted how Jesus
approached the suffering man, isolated near the healing pool of Bethesda, and
asked him: “Do you want to get well?”<o:p></o:p>

“The Lord goes where others do not go,” the
Pope said. “He reaches those who are excluded and offers not just healing, but
dignity.”<o:p></o:p>

Following the catechesis and greetings in
various languages, the Holy Father turned his thoughts to global crises,
issuing a heartfelt appeal for peace in war-torn regions.<o:p></o:p>

“The heart of the Church is torn by the
cries that rise from places of war,” he said, citing Ukraine, Iran, Israel, and
Gaza. “We must not get used to war. We must reject the temptation of powerful

Quoting Gaudium et Spes, the Second
Vatican Council's Pastoral Constitution, the Pope warned of modern warfare’s
dehumanizing brutality. He reiterated the words of his predecessors, affirming:

peace. Everything can be lost with war” (Pius XII).<o:p></o:p>

morning, Pope Leo XIV received the bishops of the Italian Episcopal Conference
(CEI) in audience at the Vatican Apostolic Palace, urging them to deepen their

Addressing the prelates in a hall rich with
recent emotional significance, the Pope recalled how his predecessor, Pope
Francis, delivered his final Easter Urbi et Orbi message from the
central Loggia, calling passionately for peace. "And I too, on the evening
of the election, wanted to echo the announcement of the Risen Lord: ‘Peace be

Expressing gratitude for the bishops'
